Course content:
SUBJECT AREAS - The appearance of new, improved equipment, crisis situations, security.
GRAMMAR - Grading of adjectives - repetition, connecting words for comparison and contrast, passive voice with modal verbs relating to the past, direct and indirect speech.
FUNCTIONS - Describing processes, comparison, explaining
technical problems to non-specialists, expressing agreement and disagreement.

Learning outcomes
Students who have passed the course:
- are competent enough to use grammatical rules in written assignments,
- participate actively in discussions on a range of subjects concerning their field of study,
- can read and understand texts concerning their field of study,
- can obtain information from literature in English, from the
Internet, and from oral presentations in English, and can interpret it,
- prepare short presentation in English on the implementation of a selected engineering task.
Assessment criteria
During the semester, the student may be awarded maximum 100 points:
- 60 points for one or more tests. One test will include elements of reading and listening comprehension.
- 40 points for different types of projects and assignments, including speaking tasks.
The final grade is calculated according to the number of points awarded during the whole semester.
Grading system:
Unsatisfactory (grade 2.0):
The student's overall score for the semester is below 51 points.
Satisfactory (grade 3.0):
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 51 - 69 points.
Satisfactory + (grade 3.5):
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 70 - 76 points.
Good (grade 4.0):
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 77 - 83 points.
Good + (grade 4.5):
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 84 - 89 points.
Very good (grade 5.0)
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 90 - 100 points.
