Steel structures. Structural steels. Material properties. Selection of material for structure. Ductulity requirements.
Actions and static calculations. Principles of limit state design. Ultimate and serviceability limit states. Anticorrosive and fire protection.
Steel products. Rolled and cold formed sections. Welded sections.
Joints used in steel structures: welded, bolted, riveted. Categories. Positioning of holes. Designing resistance.
Bending elements. Hot rolled beams. Plate girders. Shaping of beam connections and supports. Buckling resistance of members.
Tension and compression elements. Designing of uniform and built-up compression memebers. Lateral and lateral-torsional buckling of members. Designing of base and head of column.

Learning outcomes
1. Knows the rules of analysis, design and dimensioning of the elements and connections made of steel - K2A_W02.
2. Has extensive knowledge of the theoretical analysis and optimization of steel structures - K2A_W09.
3. Knows the standards and guidelines for the design of
construction of steel structures and their components - K2A_W14.
4. Able to design elements and connections made of
metal structures - K2A_U03, K2A_U09.
5. Able to critically assess the results of static calculations and
strength of steel structure - K2A_U07.
6. Can choose the tools (analytical or numerical) to
solving engineering problems - K2A_U13.
7. Can independently, responsibly and diligently work on
specific task - K2A_K01, K2A_K02.
8. Draws conclusions and describes the results of their own work. using communicative media presentations - K2A_K1.
