Hydraulics and hydrology N02329

The lecture is to provide knowledge of:
Physical and mechanical properties of liquids. Elements of hydrostatics. Liquid pressure on simple, bent and curved walls. Basic concepts of hydrodynamics of liquid. Bernoulli equation for ideal and real liquids. Securing and sealing troughs. Bridges and culverts light. Stagnation. Watercourse and catchment. Catchment water balance. Fundamentals of hydrometry and hydrography. Water management. Protection against flooding.
Classes are devoted to themes concerning:
determining liquid pressure on straight and bent walls, constructing pressure and energy lines for liquid movement in the closed pipes, designing open troughs and calculating backwater at damming.
Student’s workload connected with organized classes equals 35 hours and student’s self-work - 60 hours.

• identifies the impact of liquids on construction and its components
• describes the basic laws of liquid motion in the closed pipes and open channels
• recognizes the basic issues of hydrology and water management
• calculates the liquid pressure on straight and bent walls
• constructs pressure and energy lines of liquid movement in the closed pipe system
• designs trapezoidal ditch and calculates the backwater at damming
• uses database sources available in the library and on the Internet.

Assessment methods
Lecture – written test
Project - the execution of two design projects, partial corrections and final defence, two written tests.
