Bioceramics MIBS15004
Course content:
Characterization of the basic types of bioceramics and the methods of manufacturing of bioceramics. Bioactive glass. Bioactive glass-ceramics. Composition, structure and properties of hydroxyapatite. Characterization of alumina. Properties of zirconia. Carbons. HAp, bioglass and Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coatings. Structure and properties of sulfates and titanates. Clinical applications of bioceramics.
Learning outcomes: A student knows the practical methods of manufacturing of bioceramics and bioceramic coatings.

A student: lists, classifies and describes the basic bioceramic materials and describes methods for their preparation and research,
produces some types of bioceramic materials,
performs measurements of selected properties of bioceramic materials and develops the measurement results,
can use the known methods for the assessment of bioceramic materials,
applies the principles of safety,
is able to work in a team.
Assessment criteria
a test for lab exercises., a report from the lab exercises.,
a discussion on the report of the exercise,
an observation of work in the classroom.
