Course content: Introduction to biophysics: historical overview, connections with physics, biology and medicine. Thermodynamics of open systems, equilibrium exchange states, flows, transport phenomena i biological systems. Intermolecular interactions, enzymatic reaction kinetics. Membrane and diffusion potentials. propagation of nerve impulses. Active and passive forms of the membrane transport. Hormons and neurotransmitters. Effect of the external fields onto living organism. Biophysics of senses. Mechanics of muscle contraction. The sliding filament theory of muscle contraction. Mechanic of biological liquids.Radioactivity and radioactive isotopes. Characteristics of radioactivity. Radioactive radiations and their classification.
