Medical materials engineering MIBN04035
Course content: Medical materials and products- classification and evaluation. Biomaterials- division and general characterization. Problems of biocompatibility and biofunctionality. Metallic biomaterials for bone implants and surgery instruments. Implant corrosion and metallosis phenomena. Biomaterials surface passivation method. Materials for blood contact. Materials for prolongated body contact. Materials for tissue connection. Dressing materials. Materials for dentistry-implants, fillings, assistance materials. Problems of sterilization and disinfection. Mataerials for orthopedic equipments: prosthetic, orthotic, epithetic. Orthopedic wood and skin. Rehabilitation equipments – construction and assistance materials. Methods of testing and certification of medical materials.
Learning outcomes: student will gain knowledge about materials selection for biomedical applications in terms of shapeing their structure and properties
