Finite element method MBM2N12007A
Course content:
Displacement method in the analysis of bar structures, the matrix formulation and finite element method, discretization of the structure. FEM algorithm - the creation of the elemental stiffness matrices, the transformation of the element degrees of freedom to the global coordinate system, assembling of the global stiffness matrix, taking into account the boundary conditions, methods for solving symmetric positive definite and banded system of linear equations, the calculation of stresses and nodal forces. Methods of the verification of results. Using the symmetry of the structure. FE calculations of the typical structures - two-dimensional problems of the elasticity theory, plates and shells, spatial structures. MES in the dynamics and stability of bar structures.
Learning outcomes:
Ability to independently analyze and verify the FEM results of the basic types of structures loaded statically and dynamically.
