Course content:
Lecture
An introduction to database theory and relational database management systems.
Database analysis and entity relationship (ER) modelling.
Mapping ER models into relations. Normalisation techniques for relations. SQL.Transactions. Metadata. Security of the database.
Project
MS Access 2007 database creating. Database objects: tables, forms, raports, macros, queries (select queries, aggrigate query, make table queries, append queries, update queries, delete queries, parameter queries, cross queries).
Table relationships.
Building SQL queries.
MS Access 2007 integration with SQL Server 2005.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge about relational database design.
Practical skills in operating MS Access 2007 database application, using language SQL for data manipulating and creating simple MS SQL Server 2005 databases.
