Course content:
Soil forming factors, their influence on the process of soil formation.
Soil forming processes. Evolutionary sequences of soils.
Weatering, transportation and sedimentation of weathering products.
Parent materials, primary and secondary minerals.
Transformation of organic matter in soils, soil humus.
Physical properties of soils and their importance for plant habitats and edaphon.Availability of soil water for plants.
Soil sorption and transportation of substances (contaminant).
Chemical properties of soils, transformation of nutrient compounds in soils.
Polish and international soil classification systems.
Human impact on soil quality, degradation and protection of soils.
Learning outcomes:
Learning of soil properties as well as their functions in terrestrial ecosystems.
Ability to classify Polish forests soils.
