Structure of materials. Nature of their cohesion, Types of atomic bonds. Defects of the Crystalline lattice.
Mechanisms of materials deformation.
Types of materials.
Phase diagrams and phase transitions. Diffusion, Nucleation,
Mechanical properties
Optical, photocatalitic and semiconducting properties.
Introduction to nanotechnology.
Methods of materials investigation; Scanning microscopy, x-ray diffraction,.
Nondestructive testing.
Selecting materials for specific applications.

Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes:
Understanding the basic phenomena in materials, as a basis for self-learning of knowledge needs in specific applications.
Assessment criteria
Web test and oral examination.
To be qualified for oral test, a note at least 3,5 at the web -test.
The result of the oral test can be from 2.0 to 5.0 and is final.
For participation at lectures (75%) additional 0.5 points.
To be qualified to oral examination, at least a not 4 from exercises.
