Winter Semester 2019/20
Systems of Water Supply IS-FCEE-00038
Description:
Lectures: General characteristics of water supply systems. Evaluation of water demand - required capacity of water distribution system. Surface watere and groundwater intakes. Water storage reservoirs. Hydraulic design of water distribution systems - branching and closed conduit systems. Pipe materials and water systems appurtenances. Design: Water distribution pipe network design. Water demand budget. Water intakes (surface, underground and infiltration waters). Water reservoirs - types, role in the system, construction. Water supply network - types of networks, design principles, pressure distribution. Materials, utilities and special objects in water supply networks.Design of looped (closed) water supply network for an urban area.
Skills: students will learn engineering principles and design methods for water supply systems especially they will be able to estimate water demand for a community, design layout of water supply system and choose appropriate pipe diameters for water distribution system. By the end of this module students should be able to: describe and analyze major components of water supply systems, estimate technical parameters of water supply system (capacity, required pressures etc.), perform hydraulic calculations of closed conduits and design simple water supply network.
Form of assessment: Term project, written test
Requirements:
Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics
