History of Arts 3 GRP5051
The lecture aims to present the history of European and Polish art, with particular emphasis on Polish and foreign fine arts of the late 18th century, 19th and early 20th centuries, European artistic crafts, collecting and donating, and museum aspects.
Visual arts will be covered through the following sections: architecture, European and Polish painting, knowledge of the most important works of painting and sculpture and their creators, knowledge of the ideas and other factors shaping the creation of a work of art in particular stylistic eras, knowledge of aesthetic principles and artistic aspects of ancient painting and sculpture, including woodcarving, knowledge of the artists' workshop, centres of production, the interdependence of architecture, painting and sculpture on other fields of study (history, architecture, music, philosophy, politics or literature).
Arts and crafts will be presented according to the division that has been adopted in science into: furniture, ceramics, glass, metals, textiles, goldsmithing and variation.

Learning outcomes
Students has knowledge of the main currents in 19th and 20th century art.
Students is able to recognise works of art and attribute them to particular artists.
Students will be able to make a formal analysis of a work of art and interpret its ideological content.
Students will be able to prepare an oral presentation presenting an independent assessment of the work of a selected artist.
Student is able to prepare a written academic paper on the history of art of the 19th and 20th century.
Assessment criteria
Lecture - oral examination.
Exercises - paper and presentation on a selected topic.
