Legal basis for the protection of intellectual property. "Protected" and "Unprotected" property. Basic concepts of copyright. Types of works, authors' rights, employee works. Protection of copyrights in the country and in the world. Lawful use of third party works. Organizations of collective copyright management. Intellectual property law in scientific research. Basic concepts of industrial property. Protection of industrial property in Poland. Institutions dealing with registration and protection of intellectual property. The role of the patent attorney. Types of patent information (description and classification systems). Sources of patent information in the country and in the world, databases on patents. Intellectual property at universities.

Learning outcomes
The student knows the basic economic, legal and ethical conditions of engineering activities. Has knowledge in the field of intellectual property protection, including patent and copyright law.
When solving engineering tasks student is able to notice their non-technical aspects related to the observance of intellectual property rights.
Assessment criteria
Passing the lecture - test exam. To pass, it is required to obtain at least 50% of the possible points. Assessment:
from 50 to 60% of points, grade 3,
from 61 to 70% points, rating 3.5
from 71 to 80% points, rating 4
from 81 to 90% points, rating 4.5
over 90% points, rating 5.
In the case of classes in remote mode, the lecture is completed on the MS Teams platform in the form of a remotely completed test within a limited time.
