Topics related to academic life, current affairs and issues of the modern world, as well as basic issues in the student's field of study. Issues related to the English grammar in the analysed texts. Communication in the form of oral presentations.

Learning outcomes
Students who have passed the course:
- can understand oral statements if they relate to relatively familiar topics, including those containing basic terminology in the student's field of study,
- understand texts on various issues of the modern world, including those containing basic terminology in the student's field of study,
- can take an active part in discussions on familiar topics,
- can prepare and give an oral presentation.
Assessment criteria
During the semester, the student may be awarded maximum 100 points:
- 60 points for one or more tests. One test will include elements of reading and listening comprehension. The tests will also include the specialist language.
- 40 points for different types of projects and assignments, including speaking tasks.
The awarded points are the confirmation of the learning outcomes according to the following scale:
Unsatisfactory (grade 2.0):
The student's overall score for the semester is below 51 points.
Satisfactory (grade 3.0):
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 51 - 60 points.
Satisfactory + (grade 3.5):
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 61 - 70 points.
Good (grade 4.0):
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 71 - 80 points.
Good + (grade 4.5):
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 81 - 90 points.
Excellent (grade 5.0)
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 91 - 100 points.
