Course content:
SUBJECT AREAS - events, jobs, safety rules, procedures.
English for specific purposes - Properties and characteristics of materials used
in technological processes, electronic systems.
GRAMMAR - word formation (complex nouns, nouns formed from verbs and adjectives); grading of adjectives and adverbs; infinitive constructions, cause and purpose sentences.

Learning outcomes
Students who have passed the course:
- have general knowledge of the English grammar;
- are familiar with basic vocabulary concerning selected materials, machines and devices;
- have a sufficient command of English to communicate in specified situations;
- are able to obtain and interpret basic information from literature in English.
Assessment criteria
During the semester, the student may be awarded maximum 100 points:
- 60 points for one or more tests. One test will include elements of reading and listening comprehension.
- 40 points for different types of projects and assignments, including speaking tasks.
The final grade is calculated according to the number of points awarded during the whole semester.
Grading system:
Unsatisfactory (grade 2.0):
The student's overall score for the semester is below 51 points.
Satisfactory (grade 3.0):
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 51 - 69 points.
Satisfactory + (grade 3.5):
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 70 - 76 points.
Good (grade 4.0):
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 77 - 83 points.
Good + (grade 4.5):
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 84 - 89 points.
Very good (grade 5.0)
The student's overall score for the semester is in the range of 90 - 100 points.
