Course content:
Physical quantities and units. Elements of mathematical analysis and calculus of vectors.
Kinematics of a mass point. Newton's laws of motion. Work, power, energy. The conservation of momentum, angular momentum and energy.
Thermodynamics of gases. Fluid and gas mechanics. Universal gravitation.
Harmonic, damped and driven oscillator. Wave motion. Acoustics.
Electrostatics. Capacitance. Direct current. Magnetic field due to electrical current. Magnetic properties of material bodies. Electromagnetic induction. Electromagnetic waves.
Geometrical optics. Wave optics. Interference, diffraction and polarization of light.
Nuclear physics. Natural and artificial radioactivity. Periodic table of the chemical elements. Valence bond theory.
Learning outcomes:
A student knows and can interprete the principle laws of physics.
