Structures AWN5017
Course content:
Implementation of triad function-form-construction in two scales (small, medium or large) from different materials (wood, metal and brittle monolith, e.g. concrete or glass). Writing compact structural specification of a design task – function, loads resulting from the function and the environment, critical combinations of loads, connected with the environment. Choice of the structure form and building the scheme of the structure. Analysis of the way of construction work. Matching materials to the way of work. Establishing the simplest structure to implement. Establishing the structure with the lowest material cost.
Learning outcomes:
Reaching abilities to apply issues of structural mechanics in design practice. Deepening skills in determining schemes of design objects, selecting loads, analysing the way of work, shaping various forms of structure from different materials depending on the function and the way of work.
