Structural Mechanics 1 AWN3053
Course content:
Statically and kinematically determinate, bar and surface systems as systems which adapt to their environment; composing trusses by the triangle method; truss and cable systems; single-span and multiple-span bending beams; curved bending beams; static schemes as models of reality; models of dead and live loads, supports and structural connections; realizations of schemes of structure – monolithic, thin-walled, solid and with holes, frame and truss schemes; realizations of materials – stone, concrete, glass, ceramics, ice, wood, metals, laminated and reinforced composites, prestressed and post-tensioned concrete.

Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes:
Reaching abilities to use statically determinate systems in different functions and scales, from different materials. Acquiring skills in building static schemes of these systems, assuming loads, determining mechanical quantities required for design, shaping optimal structures.
Assessment criteria
The material of the subject is divided into five thematic areas, called themes. Mastering the material is checked through written tests, which take place during the whole semester.
There are five regular tests and four correction tests. One can get up to 15 points on tests.
TUTORIALS - FINAL GRADE
5.0 (very good) -> (Passing 5 themes) and (the total sum of points from 5 themes ≥ 12)
4.5 (better than good) -> (Passing 5 themes) and (the total sum of points from 5 themes ≥ 10)
4.0 (good) -> (Passing at least 4 themes) and (the total sum of points from 5 themes ≥ 8)
3.5 (better than satisfactory) -> (Passing at least 4 themes) and (the total sum of points from 5 themes ≥ 6)
3.0 (satisfactory) -> Passing at least 3 themes
2.0 (unsatisfactory/fail) -> Passing less than 3 themes
3.0 (satisfactory) -> Passing at least 3 themes
2.0 (unsatisfactory/fail) -> Passing less than 3 themes
LECTURES - written and oral exam (theory and tasks)
