Course content:
Causes and effects of progressive acidification of agro- and natural ecosystems. Contamination of soils and waters with toxic substances: PCBs, dioxins, PAHs, heavy metals. Intensification of agricultural production and environmental effects (water eutrophication, residual pesticides). Waste utilization in the environment and environmental impact. Bioaccumulation and biotransformation of toxins from the environment as well as their cancerigenity and mutagenity.
Learning outcomes:
Competence in estimation of soil acidification and salinity as well as solubility of heavy metals in soil, determination of phosphates in ground waters and qualitative analysis of pesticides in waters
