Course content:
Periodic table of elements. Structures of atom and chemical compound. State of aggregation. Physic-chemistry of water. Types of chemical reactions (hydrolysis, hydration). Basis of thermodynamics and chemical kinetics. Chemical equilibrium. Saturated and unsaturated solutions. Colloids.Basis of electrochemistry. Chemical properties of metals - chemical and electrochemical corrosion of metals. Elements of qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis. Chemistry of building materials - building binders. Forces of cohesion of homogeneous and non- homogeneous materials. Importance of surface phenomenon in building engineering. Corrosion of concrete. Basis of organic chemistry. Polymerization, polycondensation, polyaddition. Chemistry of plastics and bituminous materials.
Learning outcomes:
Students know properties of chemical compounds occurring in building materials and understand basic physic-chemistry phenomena connected with their applications.
