Winter Semester 2012/13
Powder Metallurgy MIB2S12003M
Contents:
Technology of sintering process. The materials obtained by powder metallurgy method. Mechanical alloying, as a main method of producing crystalline, amorphous and nano-powders. Mechanism of matter transport during the sintering. Reaction sintering and sintering under pressure, and other modern methods of powder consolidation process, e.g.: induction, microwave, laser sintering, SPS (spark plasma sintering called), HIP (hot isostatic pressing). Composite materials obtained by means of the powder metallurgy method. Modern methods of testing sintered materials.
Learning outcomes: To acquaint the student with the basic techniques used in powder metallurgy and process parameters selection of pressing and sintering.

Learning outcomes
The student classifies and describes the basic methods used in powder metallurgy, he is in a position to take measurements of selected properties of sintered materials and develop the obtained results, as well as he can used these methods to evaluate the obtained porous materials. Also the student can apply the safety principles and is able to work as a team.
Assessment criteria
Lecture - written exam;
Lab exercises. - Test of knowledge for lab exercises, a report from the lab exercises, an observation of work activity during exercises, the discussion on the topic of the report.
