Heat and Mass Transfer MBM2S32001
Mechanisms of heat transfer processes. Equation of temperature distribution of Fourier-Kirchhoff. Heat conduction through plain and curved walls.Basic theory of fins. Conjugate heat transfer. Basic theory of recuperators. Basic theory of regenerators. Basic theory of convective heat transfer: natural convection and forced convection. Analogy between heat and momentum transfer. Applicatioon of theory of similitude to convective heat transfer. Heat transfer during pool boiling and flow boiling. Basic theory of two-phase flows. Crisis of boiling. Dropwise and film condensation. Condensation in channel flow. Basic theory of radiation heat transfer. Modern techniques of heat transfer enhancement. Minichannel heat exchangers.

Learning outcomes
Student knows models of convective heat transfer, boiling and condensation.
Student is able to calculate the basic thermal and flow parameters for convective heat transfer for walls of enhanced heat transfer area.
Student is able to apply simple mathematical model of heat exchanger and perform basic calculations of perfromance of heat exchanger.
Student undertand the reasons for analysis of contemporary achievements in modern heat transfer techniques in aspects of enhancement and miniaturisation of heat exchangers.
Student understand a role of heat tgransfer processes in contemporary thermal engineering in aspects of energy and environmental efficiency enhancement.
Assessment criteria
Lecture: written test with 3 problems. Students are proivided with the examination problems by the lecturer during the lectures. The score to receive the credit with this course is 50%.
Calculation exercies: two tests covering two calculation problems each; the score to receive the credit with this course is 50%.
Receving the credits for lecture, calculation exercises and project are independent.
