ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY course description (lab)
1.tAn introduction to Environmental Chemistry, training in occupational health and safety and a general principles of sample collection of water and wastewater for physico-chemical investigations.
2.tPreparation of chemical reagents for water aggressiveness evaluation and water sample laboratory analysis.
3.tEvaluation of water corrosivity
4.tRemediation of water soil environment and organic compound analysis.
5.tPreparation of calibration curve for iron and ammonium ion quantitative determination.
6.tGeneral parameters of water and wastewater - suspended solids, solid residue, residue after ignition.
7.tDetermination of total and remaining chlorine after chemical water disinfection.
8.tGround water laboratory analysis.
9.tIon balance of water.
Requirements:
The fundamentals of general, inorganic and organic chemistry. Basic chemical laws. Structure of atom and molecule. Elements of quantum mechanics: chemical bonds and intermolecular interactions. . Analytical chemistry. Elements of quantitative analysis. Alkacymetry, manganometry, complexometry. Precipitative titration and gravimetric analysis. Organic compounds - nomenclature, physical and chemical properties,
Skills: Students acquire basic knowledge about general, inorganic and organic chemistry, understand the interactions that exist in solid state and solution of chemical compounds.
