Course content:
Binary logic. Boolean Laws and Algebra. Logic gates.Combinational logic design. Truth tables. Karnaugh Maps. Circuit Simplification using Karnaugh Maps. Combinational implementations. Arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply) and other popular (multiplexers, encoders, decoders) modules. Programmable logic (ROMs, PLAs, PALs, FPGAs). Sequential logic. Mealy and Moore models. State-diagram design. State minimization. State coding. Flip-flops: D, JK, SR and T. Sequential logic design. Implementation of FSMs. Asynchronous circuits. RS flip-flop. Asynchronous logic design. Implementation of asynchronous circuits. Asynchronous and synchronous circuits. Latches and Flip-Flops. MSI and VSI functional standard blocks: commute blocks, arithmetic blocks (ALU), counters, registers, memory ROM, RAM, converters and input/output devices. Microprogramming circuits. Basic microinstructions.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge of principle design SSI and MSI digital circuits.
