Winter Semester 2018/19
Structural mechanics CBSE3127
Presentation of solving methods for statically determinate and indeterminate structures. Learning the calculation
of the internal forces in the indeterminate structures using Force Method and Direct Displacement Method.
Presentation of drawing the influence lines of internal forces, reactions and displacements in statically
determinate and indeterminate structures. Learning the calculation of any cross-section internal forces and
displacements using influence lines. Introduction to the stability of the structures.

Learning outcomes
LO1 - Student identifies and describes the behaviour of bar structures
LO2 - Student identifies and describes the static behaviour of the structure as well its stability
LO3 - Student solves simple and more complex structures using Force Method
LO4 - Student solves simple and more complex structures using Direct Displacement Method
LO5 - Student uses influence lines to define values of internal forces, reactions and displacement in statically determinate and indeterminate systems
LO6 - Student justify presented solution of the calculated structure
Assessment criteria
EXAM:
The condition to be able to write the exam is at least satisfactory (3.0) evaluation of auditory classes and designing project.
Exam - two parts (practical and theoretical)
Practical part:
- solving 2 of 3 task, each task max. 30 pts, to gain 60pts
Theoretical part:
- 5 questions by max. 6pts, to gain 40pts
Total number of points at the exam: 100pts
Evaluation after getting at least 50% of possible points
Final grade due to the obtained points:
5.0 - (90.5-100.0pts)
4.5 - (80.5-90.0pts)
4.0 - (70.5-80.0pts)
3.5 - (60.5-70.0pts)
3.0 - (50.5-60.0pts)
AUDITORY CLASSES
Three tests:
test # 1 - 12 pts
test # 2 - 12 pts
test # 3 - 12 pts
Final grade due to obtained points:
5.0 - (45.5-50.0pts)
4.5 - (40.5-45.0pts)
4.0 - (35.5-40.0pts)
3.5 - (30.5-35.0pts)
3.0 - (25.5-30.0pts)
Terms of the tests:
Test # 1: (4 week)
Test # 2: (9 week)
Test # 3: (13 week)
Any of test could be improved once. The final number of points is calculated as the sum of points obtained at the improvement test. If the improvement test was not written then the points are taken from the normal test.
Terms of improvement tests:
Test # 1: (6 week).
Test # 2: (11 week)
Test # 3: (14 week)
Additional term of improvement of worst written test: (15 week)
DESIGNING PROJECT
Evaluation after finishing three designing tasks, getting proper number of points and presentation of knowledge about the project tasks.
The possibile number of points to get:
- work in the class (7 meetings) - 2pts (max. 14.0pkt),
- project (#1 / #2 / #3 ) - 12.0pts (max. 36.0pkt).
Final grade depends on the number of points got during the semester and d:
5.0 - (47.5-50.0pts)
4.5 - (43.0-47.0pts)
4.0 - (38.0-42.5pts)
3.5 - (33.0-37.5pts)
3.0 - (30.0-32.5pts)
The final grade could be lower then results from the points in case not satisfactory knowledge of project done by the student.
If student got not less then 6pts from the connected test, the teacher could complete the knowledge of the project.
Points for the working at the classes couldn't be gained in case of student absence.
Terms of project delivery:
Project #1: 6 week
Project #2: 12 week
Project: #3: 15 week
If student deliveries any project after the term or the final number of gained points is less then 30, the final grade depends only on knowledge of the student about all three project tasks.
