Course content:
Design project of a small retail/services interior. The secified retail space can be one on a high street or in a shopping mall.
The design focus is on suggesting functional design solutions depending on the kind of retail/shop environment assigned. The emphasis is also placed on shop and window display design. Students are to effectively apply the basics of ergonomics, as well as secify finishes, amterials and colour schemes.
Learning outcomes:
To develop a functional design of a small retail interior located in a shopping mall complex. To design a coherent and creative interior space based on the requirements of a particular retail shop. To design and customise specific display units for the proposed interior. To present the design ideas in competent etchnical drawings (plans, sections, elevations). To specify materials and finishes, as well as lighting systems in the interior. To depict the interior in perspectival views.

Learning outcomes
Goals and achievables: The students will acquire skills in:
-Site and context research (retail specifics)
-Specification (materials, furniture, light fixtures etc.)
-Hand drawing – perspective illustrative drawings
-Technical documentation of the project
-Designing stairs (calculating tread) and staircases
Assessment criteria
Requirements: The final grade is a final project grade consisting of two interim progress grades. The final project submitted for assessment needs to be comprehensive and competent. Assessment criteria looks into innovative approaches and creative thinking and solutions proposed, at the same time taking into consideration functionality and ergonomics of spaces, as well as final specifications and lighting proposals. Higher grades of 4.0 and above need to demonstrate an above average approch and innovative solutions, as well as a precise and professional presentation of the project.
