History of Contemporary Architecture AUN3026
Course content:
Neoclassicism. Historicism. Technical progress in the 19th century and its influence on the development of architecture. Chicago School. Secession. The beginning of the 20th century: Expressionism, Futurism. De Stijl, Russian Constructivism. The genesis and development of modernism. Bauhaus and its influence on the development of architecture and art. The work of great architects: F.L.Wright, Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, W.Gropius, A.Aalto.Other currents of interwar architecture. Modernism after World War II. Other phenomena in the post-war architecture The specificity of the contemporary architecture of selected countries. Critique of modernism. Postmodernism. Architecture of the last decades of the 20th and the beginning 21st century.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge of architectural history from the first half 18th century to the present.Understanding these architectural forms and skills in their own analysis in the context of the material cognized.
